Dr. Vauthey’s grant was for $14,500. His findings were published in the Dec 4 issue of JAMA (Chun et al) and a paper by Blazer et al published in Journal of Clinical Oncology. Two of his fellows who worked on these papers were funded in part by Cancer Fighters of Houston. The information collected has directly influence patient treatment for colorectal cancer and decrease negative side effects and resulted in a pharmaceutical company grant of $200,000 which will fund the salary for 2 more research fellows.
